Prof. (Dr.) Hemant Verma is an academician, policy leader and higher-education strategist with more than 28 years of experience spanning teaching, research, public administration and institutional leadership.

His academic training is rooted in English studies at Kurukshetra University, where he completed B.A. (Hons.), M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in English. His research interests include Native American literature, feminist literary theory, diasporic literature, postcolonial studies, gender studies, marginalized voices in literature, American and African American literature, and modern and contemporary British fiction.

He began his career in English at government colleges across Haryana, serving as Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor. In the classroom and beyond it, he advanced academic programmes, faculty-development workshops, EDUSAT lectures and conferences that encouraged critical inquiry and pedagogical excellence.

A career that connects ideas with systems

Moving into educational administration, Prof. Verma served as Assistant Director, Deputy Director and Joint Director in the Higher Education Department, Haryana, and as Additional Director in the state’s Foreign Cooperation Department. His work encompassed policy implementation, legislative acts and university statutes, the establishment of government, private and aided colleges, National Education Policy 2020 implementation, RUSA coordination, service matters, student-welfare schemes and international academic collaboration.

After serving as Principal of Government College, Barwala, Panchkula, he became Vice Chancellor of Shree Guru Gobind Singh Tricentenary University, Gurugram, on 1 April 2025. In this role, he provides strategic, academic, administrative and regulatory leadership to a multidisciplinary university, with a focus on governance, accreditation, NAAC/NBA/NIRF planning, academic restructuring, quality assurance, research, industry engagement, global partnerships and digital transformation.
